(b) Description of the Related Art
In a liquid crystal display device, liquid crystal molecules are sandwiched between two substrates, and changes in the orientation of the liquid crystal molecules are controlled to change the light transmittance for producing a desired image.
FIG. 1A illustrates a cross-sectional view of a thin film transistor (TFT) substrate included in a conventional liquid crystal display device, and FIG. 1B illustrates a cross-sectional view of an opposing substrate included in the conventional liquid crystal display device.
As shown in FIG. 1A, the conventional liquid crystal display device is provided with the TFT substrate 1 and the opposing substrate 2. The TFT substrate 1 is provided with a gate electrode 1a, a source electrode 1b, and a drain electrode 1c. The source electrode 1b and the drain electrode 1c are formed on a transparent glass substrate 2a by using a metal film such as an aluminum film. A source line 1d is connected to the source electrode 1b. A gate line 1e is connected to the gate electrode 1a.
A TFT 3 having the gate electrode 1a, the source electrode 1b, the drain electrode 1c, and a semiconductor layer 3a is formed on the transparent glass substrate 2a. A pixel electrode 4 is connected to the drain electrode 1c via a contact hole 3c. A common electrode 4a is formed on an entire surface of the transparent glass substrate 2a and disposed on the pixel electrode 4. The common electrode 4a is generally made of a transparent conductive material such as an indium tin oxide (ITO) film.
The opposing substrate 2 is provided with a color filter 2b having a black matrix, a red filter, a green filter, and a blue filter, and a common electrode 2c.
